Why-Texas.com is the competition web site for the Whyville
Texas Challenge, a class vs. class competition to earn the most virtual
currency (clams!) in our virtual biotechnology company and our virtual advanced
manufacturing company. Those virtual companies are in Whyville.net, the
learning-based virtual world for teens and tweens. Founded in 1999, Whyville
has provided exploratory learning to 3.3 million users in the U.S., Canada and throughout the world.

What about the students themselves?
- Any student referring their teacher to sign up for the challenge will receive 2500 clams in their Whyville account.
(Note: These clams are useful in the Whyville virtual economy, but do not count toward the challenge totals.
To claim the clams, the student needs to have the teacher send an e-mail to info@why-texas.com
with the student's Whyville user name – only one award per teacher!)
- All students (and the teacher too!) in the first place classes will receive a FREE virtual Scion to drive around
in Whyville – over 25,000 clam value!

Additional details:
- Winners will be announced by May 28, 2008.
- Prizes will be shipped by June 2, 2008.
- In the case of a tie, the winners will be decided in favor of the class with the most clams per student. The decision of the Why-Texas administrators will be final.
- Other clams earned in Whyville, that are not a result of the Biotechnology or PlaneWorks activities, do not count toward this competition.
- Clams earned are posted to the accounts overnight, rather than immediately upon earning them.
- A teacher may win only one of the prizes. For example, if a class is one of the first fifteen to reach 2000 clams in PlaneWorks, and also goes on to accumulate the most clams in the category overall, then the teacher may claim only the $250 prize.
Print and
display the Why-Texas poster in
your classroom, or send one home with each student. There is a space to write
the competition code(s) on the bottom as well as a reminder of the website
location.
